Abstrakt

This study aims to compare the results and complications of thyroidectomy performed using electrosurgical devices to the traditional clamp-and-tie technique (CAT) using data from a systematic review of the literature. Electronic databases of PubMed, Embase and Scopus were scoured, and clinical studies were downloaded. Of many articles, 18 articles were selected for systematic review. A thorough review of the available literature reveals that the sealing device produces better results in terms of intraoperative and postoperative blood loss, postoperative drain volume, the incidence of transient or permanent palsy of the recurrent laryngeal nerve and the external branch of the superior laryngeal nerve, and incidence of temporary or permanent palsy of the recurrent laryngeal nerve.
